Dry Jerky
A downloadable game for Windows
A survival RPG about rent, rats, and a snack nobody can explain.
Where do you come from? Who are you? Where are you going? Doesn't matter. All that matters right now is that you're hungry, broke, and late on rent.
Oasis is home to Big Chew, the city's biggest Jerky manufacturer, makers of the beloved King Jerky and King Jerky Gold. But lately there's something else on the streets. Cheap, chewy, salty enough to keep a broke student or a struggling drifter going. Nobody knows where it comes from. Nobody's really asking.
They call it Dry Jerky.
"It made me see sounds." - Eddy
"That thing is made of rat meat." - Muñoz
"My block sells it cheaper." -Jimmy Sack
You are Dude D. A blue figure that looks like it walked off a road sign, distinguished mainly by one enormous mouth. You live in a falling-apart shack in the middle of the city, and you're already behind on rent. Your landlord left a note. Five days to pay $100, or you're out.
You have $10.
What to expect from the demo.
Five days to collect the money in the "Hub", oasis's more dangerous zone, this is where you live. Talk to strangers who probably shouldn't be trusted. Take questionable jobs. Make decisions that depend on a dice roll and a little bit of luck.
Pay the rent, or don't. Either way, something's coming for you.
Contains strong language, themes of fictional substance use and addiction, and mild violence.

Great demo! Took me ~<2 hours to complete, and I almost missed the demo ending because I completely forgot we had to turn in the rent payment and exited the game early lol.
Aside from a few typos, there weren't many bugs/issues that I noticed. The only major issue that I had was with performance/lag while traveling across the map and entering/exiting areas, which is pretty common within RPG Maker games.
One thing I would really like to see is a nighttime color palette for the character sprites, since they look kind of mismatched when it becomes night. I'd also like to see the stats/skills being utilized more (but again, this is only just the demo).
Overall, really loved the visual style (especially that apartment cutscene), and hope to see more of this. Wishlisted on Steam!
Thank you so much for playing!
just finished my playthrough !
i cannot stress enough how much i love the art direction of this game. i am NEVER ashamed to glaze great pixel art, but holy fuck, this is on a whole another level. everything about this is great, and somewhere halfway through i even forgot this was supposed to be a demo, honestly.
the scene in the apartment caught me off-guard in the best way possible. kind of a shame i didn't have to fight munoz and frankie, and im pretty sure i missed a whole lot of other stuff too, but that only comes to prove how great this game is.
i did find another bug tho, not that important but when you buy the roller skates, equip and then unequip them, you continue to move around as if you have them on. nothing game-breaking, just thought i'd say this since i've noticed, lol.
just a thought i had when playing, maybe think about adding different text sounds to different characters? im in no way a game developer and have no idea how hard that would be to be honest, but the sound effects were my second favourite thing after the artstyle, and i feel like it would add a whole another layer of charm and personality, especially to sticky (he creeped me out as it was, but still). thank you so much for creating something like this! you can just feel the soul in every detail of this game and i just loved it through and through.
Thank you so much for your kind words! It really means a lot.
The roller skates bug it's a bit weird, I have been trying to trigger it but nothing, did it happen in a specific scenario?
tried to showcase the bug. sorry for the wonky recording and the late reply
Thanks for the video, I'm looking forward to fix it.
how can I move by WASD ? (my keybord do not have the arrows :/ )
Hey! I just added WASD movement in the last update
yo, this game is so fire !! this is the exact kind of thing i snoop around the internet for. i downloaded it yesterday and im on day 3 currently, it did crash tho, said that "smunoz" file was missing
Thanks for playing! I just fixed it and updated it, you should be able to use the same save data in the new build.
thank you so much ! i really look forward to finishing it and finding all the easter eggs :)
If you make a mac version, I'd be interested in trying it out.
really like the style of this game, i did experience a crash while playing though. the error said lupino sprite was missing
I just updated the build, that should be fixed.
Loved the video. Thank you Riggy!
